On July 8, 2021, Colorado became the third state with a comprehensive privacy law protecting its citizens when Governor Jared Polis signed the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA) into law. The law, which goes into effect on July 1, 2023, provides several privacy rights to Colorado citizens, as well as requiring websites to have a privacy policy and imposing fines for failure to comply with its requirements. With substantial financial penalties attached, the risks of non-compliance can add up quickly.
