Gmail E-Discovery Capabilities Get a Boost with Exterro's New Integration

A couple years ago, Google did some retooling to Gmail. Some of those changes—like self-destructing emails and information right management (IRM)—created some new challenges for attorneys and others in involved in e-discovery operations. Essentially, Google’s updates made ESI collection and preservation more difficult—which could create concerns when it comes to legal holds.

Recently, Exterro released a new integration with Google G-Suite, which enables the proactive preservation, collection, review, and analysis of data available within Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Vault. This integration significantly reduces the risk of data spoliation, and decreases the time and cost required to get to the facts of a given matter.

Now, Exterro’s Google Vault integration enables users to preserve relevant data in place for Gmail, Hangouts, and other files from Google drive. The collection and processing of the data takes place concurrently—and early case assessment tools can be used to analyze the data stored before Google Suite prior to collection.

Among other capabilities, the integration also means:

• Collecting events created within the workplace for company gathers or other meetings/events.
• Performing targeted collections by using search parameters to filter relevant data.
• Maintaining conversation threading of collected data.
• Attachments are automatically grouped with parent-child relationships, which eases the review process.
• The ability to use native Gmail search query language to search for case-relevant data
