LGPD is the Brazilian data protection law that governs the processing of personal data, requiring consent, transparency, security measures, and granting individuals rights over their data, with penalties for non-compliance.

Understanding LGPD Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados

LGPD, or Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados, is Brazil's comprehensive data protection law that regulates the collection, use, processing, and storage of personal data. It applies to any organization, regardless of its location, that processes personal data of individuals in Brazil. LGPD is based on principles such as purpose limitation, necessity, transparency, security, and accountability. It requires organizations to obtain explicit consent from individuals before processing their data and provides individuals with rights to access, correct, delete, or port their data. LGPD also mandates that organizations implement security measures to protect personal data and establishes penalties for non-compliance, including fines of up to 2% of the company's revenue in Brazil, capped at 50 million Brazilian reais per violation.
