Hanna Andersson Data Breach First Class Action Lawsuit Filed Citing CCPA

Why This Privacy Law is Important:

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) has been cited for the first time in litigation, and we’re seeing the importance of deleting personal information to avoid negligence claims. Failure to delete data in accordance with the CCPA’s regulatory requirements can result in fines up to $750 per violation.

Overview:

The CCPA made its first appearance in litigation via a proposed class-action suit filed in a California Federal Court: Barnes v. Hanna Andersson, LLC. This complaint accuses clothing retailer Hanna Andersson and its online payment services provider of failing to properly safeguard customers' sensitive data.

It’s estimated that 10,000 California residents could have been affected by this breach.
